An Igbo Socio- Cultural Organization, ‘Igbo Delegates Assembly’ ( IDA) the umbrella/leadership body of all Ndigbo , living in the 19 northern states and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has tasked all the geopolitical zones in the country, including all the political parties , as well as all the political stakeholders, all the traditional institutions and every other relevant body in Nigeria, to sincerely consider zoning the Presidency of the country to the South East,, come 2023.
It made the call in a Communique issued at the end of it’s quarterly meeting in Minna, Niger State capital last Friday after what it described as a successful, fruitful and progressive delibrations on the way forward for both the Ndigbo and Nigeria, adding that this singular appeal was in line with the principles of equity, justice and fairness.
The Communiqué, signed by both the President General and Secretary General of the organization, Chief Chikezie Nwogwu and Comrade Austin Ofokanzi Ifedinezi, copies of which were made available to journalists in Minna, on Wenesday, said, this call, “if agreed upon by the other geopolitical zones in the country, that it will make the south east, geopolitical zone a major block in Nigeria, feel a sense of belonging in the development affairs and desired unity of our great nation”.
IDA, considered as the second largest organized Igbo socio-cultural body in the world after Ohanaeze Ndigbo world wide, stated further that It was on record, that no south easterner, has been given the opportunity to lead the nation as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, just as it promised among other issues, to remain committed and resilient in contributing to the socioeconomic growth of wherever they reside in the country.
The Communiqué, further disclosed that some of the issues raised, discussed and resolved at the Igbo Delegates Assembly held in Minna, last Friday was among others, the resolve to continue to seek and explore all available legitimate avenues to
provide security and welfare for its people living in northern Nigeria, in particular and host communities and every other person
living wherever they were domiciled, in general.
“We also resolved to continue to seek and promote, the best ways to coexist,
peacefully and harmoniously with our host communities and other citizens and to work closely with both states and federal governments, including our resolve to work witg traditional Institutions and every other body necessary for peace and
tranquility.
“Additionally, we resolved to develop and engage all available channels of communications with relevant Institutions for ease of interactions and dissemination of information which will enable the expected effective prompt actions
and deliveries” .
The Communique, thereby expressed deep appreciation and thanked the government of Niger state and the good peopleof the state for the security and warm reception availed to them throughout their stay in the state and prayed that such peaceful
coexistence among all the ethnic nationalities living the state
