“Yahoo Boy” Commits Suicide In Lekki … Slits Own Throat With Knife

A young man identified as Richard has committed suicide by slitting his own throat with a sharp knife over an undisclosed reason.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening, 28th April, 2026, in his house, he bought recently for several millions of naira.

It was gathered that Richard, had early in the morning, visited Metro Supermarket, a stone thrown from his house, where he bought groceries, before stopping over to get some fresh tomatoes along the road.

“Suddenly after getting the tomatoes, he began to run towards his house, where he locked his gate, doors before taking his life,” a witness narrated.

Richard, who was said to have been hale and hearty before the suicide, was a bachelor and nursed no suspicion of suicide.

However, information obtained from a neighbourhood painted a grin picture of the unsteady behavioural pattern of the victim in recent times.

One of the brothers who lived in his house, situated at Emmanuel Usman Crescent was said to have left the victim’s house when he started noticing very unsteady behaviour.

“At night, he would be muttering incomprehensible words to himself. Sometimes, he goes down to neighbours gate and start banging it at midnight,” it was learnt.

Richard, who was always in company of two of his friends, with one of them named Valentine, were allegedly involved in Advance Fee Fraud popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo. ”

However, a girl that sells close to where he lived confirmed to our reporter that one of the three friends had earlier this month ran gaga after he made huge sums of money and purchased a posh car.

It was, however, not clear what could have prompted his decision to commit suicide, but was known to be a heavy smoker and relatively jovial.

Meanwhile, before he took his life, it was gathered in a video clips captured by onlookers, Richard was said to have stood at the corridor of his apartment, took out two knives and starting slitting his throat while passersby shouted at him to stop it.

Attempt by onlookers and sympathizers to rescue him failed as they couldn’t gain access into the compound. To restrain him, they were said to have resorted to throwing stones and pebbles at him if that would dissuade him.

Unfortunately, the victim was said to have continued until he completely cut his throat deeper with blood gushing out. Thereafter, he flunged himself down the glassed terrace.

Incidently, his shirt was said to have stocked to the protector while bleeding profusely until the Corps of Commissionaires at the security gate of the estate where called in, who later contacted the Divisional Police Station, at Ajiwe-Ajah.

As the reasons for his decision to take his life remains unknown, nobody could immediately disclose his state of origin or where he worked or a particular business that he does to have been able to purchase such a building in Lekki highbrow area.
