World Pharmacy Day Celebration In Bayelsa State

The Bayelsa State chairman, Pharmacists society of Nigeria,PSN, pharm,Ronari Owaba has charged members of the profession to live above boards in the discharge of their professional duties.

Owaba gave the charge in Yenagoa,the state capital at the weekend while speaking to Journalists during the 2020 edition of the World Pharmacists day celebration.

He noted that pharmacists are solely saddled with the onerous task of not just manufacturing, testing and dispensing drugs for the cure and treatment of diseases but that they are a key stakeholders in the chain of distribution of these drugs as they are very much involved in the training and retraining of pharmacists and students of pharmacy in the various academic institutions.

Our correspondent reports that this year’s World Pharmacists day has the theme: “Transforming Global Health.”

According to the PSN boss,following the role played by them in the day to day running of both public and privately owned Medical facilities and pharmaceutical industries, world over the Governments in various parts of the World have set-aside the 25th day of September each year to celebrate the good works of pharmacists.

He restated the importance of partnership with all stakeholders in the healthcare system to getting rid-off fake and unwholesome drugs and substances, assuring that the PSN under his stewardship would continue to add value to the activities of the body in the state.

The Pharmacists society helmsman added that though drugs are originally manufactured to treat  ailments, their administration by unqualified persons can in turn overwhelm the reason for a particular drug.

Owaba therefore warned against the patronage by clients and patients to quackery, saying many who now parade as drug sellers are trained as professional pharmacists,just as he cautioned against the sale and usage of controlled drugs by unauthorized sellers and buyers.

High points of the event were free drugs dispensation by the Young pharmacists association, headed by its state coordinator,pharmacist, Akibra Shadrack,just as the association also took to unwind through boat cruise, amongst others.
