The recent claim by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume that there is no genocide against Christians in Nigeria is not only unfounded but a grave denial of the suffering endured by thousands.
As an indigenous Christian from Gwoza, Borno State, I testify to the deliberate and systematic attempt to erase the Christian presence in regions such as Gwoza, Chibok, and Dambuwa. Gwoza was Once vibrant with over 27 LCC church buildings of the E.Y.N Church in Gwoza Bayan Duste—each accommodating more than a thousand worshippers—these communities now lie in ruins. Boko Haram insurgents and bandits, disturbingly referred to as “Islamic soldiers” by Cleric Ahmed Gumi, have reduced these sacred sites to ashes.
The silence of leaders like Senator Ndume, who many believe benefits politically from this situation, is both alarming and inexcusable.
A Landscape of Erasure
Gwoza, once home to a respected home with Theological College, now watches its Christian identity replaced, as the state governor prioritizes the construction of a high Islamic college.
This is not an isolated case. In my state we have the commission for religion affairs but the presence of Christian in that office is equivalent to zero is an indication of zero tolerance for Christian in the state. while the state government establishing Islamic colleges in every local government area of Borno State—including Chibok L.G.A, which is 85% Christian. This deliberate pattern raises a critical question: Is there a systematic effort to eliminate Christian heritage from the Borno more especially Southern Borno that you represent as their senator?
Institutional Silence
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), The president E.Y.N Church, The President of COCIN Church and leaders of other denomination have remained disturbingly silent.
As a Christian from Borno state Gwoza LGA, I must ask: Have these institutions been compromised? Have they become inactive observers—paid to maintain silence while their members face persecution? Their inability to act or speak in defense of their own communities has damaged their credibility and emboldened those carrying out this oppression.
A Call for Truth and Accountability
Senator Ndume must answer: Who is killing the Muslims he claims are victims? Do these attackers invoke the name of Jesus when committing murder? Has the Islamic Council of Nigeria publicly condemned these atrocities? The abduction of Leah Sharibu—still in captivity for refusing to renounce her Christian faith—remains a painful symbol of Nigeria’s failure to act.
If Christians were targeting their own, this would be a matter of internal conflict; but the facts point to a targeted campaign of religious cleansing.
A Voice That Will Not Be Silenced
I, Enoch speak on behalf of the displaced person, the mourning, and the voiceless. This is not a political statement; it is a moral and spiritual cry for justice. To the leadership of CAN, E.Y.N COCIN and other believe, I ask: Will you continue to watch in silence? Will you trade the lives of your people for political appointments or financial gain? Your silence has consequences, and it has cost you the trust of those you claim to represent.
An Appeal to the International Community
To the United States of America and the global community: do not ignore Nigeria’s hidden genocide. The time has come and the time is now, to hold the Nigerian government accountable for its constitutional duty to protect all citizens, regardless of their faith. The blood of the innocent cries out for justice.
A Call to Christians Worldwide
To my fellow believers: let us stand together in prayer, advocacy, and unwavering faith. We cannot allow fear or indifference to silence us. We must defend the faith and the lives of those under threat.
This is the voice of the victims. This is the conscience of a nation. Will the world listen?
