There was pandemonium Monday afternoon when a truck lost control and rammed into shops around Oyemekun axis of College Road, Ogba, Lagos State, killing a trader and injuring one other.
The victim, a soft drink seller was identified as Iya Ibeji. According to her neighbours, she was holding her little child in her shop when the vehicle lost control and rammed into her shop and one other shop next to hers.
Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the baby in her arms were still unknown as at press time.
Sympathisers immediately put a call trough to National Wire who also called the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) control room.
The staff on duty at the emergency office responded that a rescue team was already on the way to the scene of the accident.
At the scene of the incident, sympathisers were already on ground trying to salvage the situation.
The trailer also rammed into a car dealer who was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
Another shop owner in the area who simply identified himself as Prince told National Wire that, “The car dealer has been refereed to the Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital when the local hospital couldn’t handle the emergency.”
According to another report, the truck whose driver fled the scene of the accident was coming from Iju Ishaga and reportedly had a break failure then rammed into the nearby shops.
Spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) told National Wire via Whatsaap that a response team is already activated to the scene.”
Another shop owner an hour after the accident also told National Wire that the truck was still at the scene of the accident.
“The truck is still at the scene of the accident. LASEMA brought a crane but the crane is smaller than what is needed to pull the truck,” she said, adding that, “They have sent for another crane and we hope they would arrive early so as to prevent further damage.”
