The Lagos State Police Command has been meeting stake holders in Ikorodu area of the state over the ongoing security situation.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni at the Ikorodu meeting on Tuesday said “This is not my first meeting here and God has been helping us and we shall overcome. For the past four days, we have been having face off with Isawo militants but it is not right for us to be facing trouble all d time. Ikorodu was formally known for harbouring criminals but the local vigilante group, Onyabo with the help of police to curb crime.”
The Commissioner of Police expressed his disappointment over the way and manner some stakeholders from Ibese walked out of a previous security meeting. “The Community Development Association (CDA) from Ibese will not storm out of the meeting hall if they are not criminal elements.
“The truth is that we have to put a stop to the name ‘Badoo.’ It is just a media hype, we have assassins and ritualist, serial killers, but it is obvious that the serial killers use chemical substances to weaken their victims before perpetrating their evil acts.”
Owoseni also urged the traditional rulers in the area to leave no stone unturned in uncovering herbalists that assist evil doers. “The police cannot do it alone, leaders and traditionalists must join forces together to restore peace to the community.”
He pleaded that leaders should meet with residents to stop the act of jungle justice
“It is barbaric to burn a fellow human being regardless of the crime committed,” he said, urging Baales to make themselves known to their constituency and to begin what he called “operation know your neighbor.”
In his own response, the traditional ruler of Ibese, Oba Richard Ogunsanya, said, it is very necessary for the traditional institution in Ikorodu and community leaders to join hands with security operatives so that Ikorodu can be peaceful. He however prayed that the Almighty will continue to guide and protect security the operatives.
The paramount ruler and Ayangburen of Ikorodu, HRH Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi Adegorushen V, in his own speech at the town hall meeting at Keme Balogun Junior College, Ibeshe, Ikorodu assured residents of the Ikorodu area of his goodwill
“If you had built in Ikorodu town then you are automatically an Ikorodu indigene and I expect us all to cooperate in fishing out evil doers. Meanwhile, the police officers are doing their best and without our assistance and cooperation, restoring peace will not be easy.
It is not the police or the Oba that will come to your rescue, you must be ready to set yourself free from this evil perpetrators. I employ you to be very vigilant and not relent in sharing information with security operatives. May God bless us all,” he prayed.
Leader of CDA in Ibese community however apologised for walking out from the palace earlier. He attributed his action to the fear of walking at night because of evil perpetrators.
According to him commercial motorcyclist was also a factor and that the evil doers commit these atrocities when there is no light which makes the hoodlums to hide under the canopy of darkness to perpetrate their heinous crimes. He prayed that God will put them to shame and be exposed in Jesus name.
Also, wife of the late traditional ruler of Ibese, Mrs. Olide, complained of insecurity around her area. She specifically pointed out about the school fence that has collapsed and the fact that the criminals use the bushy part of the school compound as hideout. She however pleaded that the CP dialogue with the school to repair the fence and mount security operatives in the area.

Chairman Ibese Titun at the meeting also accused the traditional ruler of not carrying them along despite series of letters written. He also pleaded with the traditional ruler to forgive their sins if the CDA has offended him in anyway promising there would be unity and the evil doers shall be flushed out.
