…FRSC deploys special intervention team
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS2HQ Special Intervention Patrol Team, swiftly responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near NIPCO Filling Station, Ibafo, early Saturday morning.
In a statement signed by RC Elizabeth O. Jayeola, Sector Public Education Officer, FRSC Lagos Sector Command, it was reported that the fatal accident, which occurred around 7:00 a.m., involved three vehicles: two tankers and a commercial transport bus.
The FRSC released the following crash statistics:
-Total persons involved: 15 (13 males, 2 females)
-Injured: 4 (2 males, 2 females)
-Fatalities: 7 (6 males, 1 female)
Vehicles Involved:
1. MACK Tanker – Registration No: SEY 363 YY (White)
2. FAW Tanker – Registration No: T 2900 LA (White)
3. Volkswagen Transporter Bus – Registration No: LSD 180 YA (Yellow)
Probable Causes: Speed Violation (SPV), Loss of Concentration (LOC)
The FRSC Special Intervention Team, stationed at the Ibafo Outpost, received the crash alert at 7:05 a.m. and arrived at the scene by 7:08 a.m., achieving an impressive three-minute response time.
Emergency responders immediately evacuated the injured victims to Divine Touch Hospital and Glory Centre Hospital in Ibafo for urgent medical care. The deceased were transported to the Idera Hospital Morgue in Sagamu.
To minimize traffic disruption, the involved vehicles were quickly removed from the road. The Nigeria Police (MTD Ibafo) took custody of the vehicles and recovered items from the crash site. FRSC personnel continue to manage traffic and ensure safety in the area.
Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. He called on motorists to observe speed limits, avoid distracted driving, and maintain their vehicles properly to help prevent such accidents.
