River State: Three soldiers killed in ambush

Fewer than 24 hours to the River State re-run election, Nigerian Army has reportedly lost three of its Soldiers In Abonnema, River State.

A Major and three soldiers were today shot dead in Abonnema in Akuku-Toru local government area of the state.

The crucial supplementary legislative elections scheduled to take place in the state Saturday have generated tension leading to several deaths.

A source revealed that the soldiers ran into an ambush set up militants in the area.

Political leaders in the state  had engaged in rallies across the state, which activities have continued to generate tension.
