
An inspector of Police from the Lagos State Police Command, Inspector Okoro Charles, has been arrested for shooting to death one Fatai Oladipupo at Ikotun, Lagos.
The Inspector who is attached to Ikotun Division had on Wednesday night about 10:05pm along Obabiyi, Igando road shot the Fatai, a 28 years old man Alfa who had gone out of his house to buy bread to break his Ramadan fast.
According to the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana said in Lagos on Thursday that the police inspector is presently facing “internal disciplinary procedures, known as Orderly Room Trial at the State Provost Department and if found guilty, would be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba for prosecution in conventional Court.”
Meanwhile, he added that a discreet Investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu has condoled with the family and friends of the deceased and called for calm while assuring that justice would be done.
In another development, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the transfer of a case involving the shooting and killing of Sergeant Onalaja Onajide attached to Ilemba Hausa Division, to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for discreet investigation.
It was gathered that following the alleged killing of the Sergeant by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Yahaya Mohammed Adeshina while trying to disperse crowds in front of the state, preliminary reports had indicted the Divisional Police Officer Ilemba Hausa, for shooting the Sergeant while dispersing crowds hence he was atrested.
Nationalwire learnt that a report forwarded to the Headquarters by the
Divisional Police Officer, CSP Yahaya Mohammed Adeshina on the 16th May, 2020 about 1500 hours, stated that an “unknown gunmen had fired gunshots at the Divisional Police Officer, Ilemba Hausa and the Station Guard, Sergeant Onalaja Onajide. While the DPO survived the gunshot, the Station Guard did not.”
The DPO further alleged in his report that two suspects were arrested in connection with the crime,claiming that the two suspects initially arrested are suspected to be deserted soldiers.”
It was learnt that the DPO has been arrested and detained at the Sate CID for investigation. In addition, his rifle has equally been retrieved for forensic examination while the Command has ordered that autopsy be carried out on the deceased police officer.
It would be recalled that the shooting of the Sergeant took place on 10th May, 2020 about 2140hours.
