The Police in Niger State , have announced the killings of seven (7) suspected armed Bandits in Mariga Local Government Area of the State, in an effort towards curtailing banditry and other criminality in the state.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun stated this at the weekend,adding that seven of the suspected Bandits were neuralized by the Police Operatives in conjunction with the local Vigilantees/ hunters during a shootout, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot injuries.
The Image Maker of the State Police Command, Abiodun who further stated that two members of the Vigilante group sustained bullet wounds during the face- off with the armed bandits, noted that the police had swiftly acted on a credible intelligence report on the presence of armed bandits terrorizing farmers within Kumbashi district of Mariga Local Government Area of the State.
The Police Spokesman further said that the police team has equally arrested 18 members of a notorious thuggery group engaged in constant civil unrest in Minna Metropolis and it’s environs in the State capital .
According to him “The Police arrested a notorious criminal, Umar Aminu in Limawa quaters of Minna, who specializes in handset snatching and 17 other miscreants.
The suspects were identified as “Naziru Rabiu (a.k.a Bush), Musa Suleiman 23 yrs, Nuhu Saidu 19yrs, Musa Suleiman 20yrs, Bashir Mohammed 17yrs, Awwal Abubakar 17yrs, Mohammed Gadafi 19yrs, Salim Umar 24yrs, Ibrahim Yunusa 17Yrs, Abdullahi Abubakar 19yrs, Musa Abubakar 20yrs, Hassan Mohammed 19yrs, Umar Suleiman 19yrs, Bala Bala 17yrs, Musa Saidu, Abdullahi Musa, Abubakar and Sadiq Mohammed 17yrs respectively.
The suspects according to the PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun will be arraigned in Court for diligent prosecution, as effort and further investigation was ongoing with a view to apprehending other fleeing members of the miscreants, towards ensuring a lasting peaceful environment in the metropolis.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Ogundele Ayodeji, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in the metropolis to actively embark on constant visibility patrols in and around identified areas.
