Osun Election: Candidates Reel Out Promises At TVC Debate

In what looks like last minute attempt to woo the electorate in Osun State, Lagos-based station, Television Continental (TVC), in a governorship debate gave opportunities to the governorship candidates to address the voters.

At the event, Oluseyi Fabiyi, contesting on the platform of KOWA party, promised free health care as well as health insurance for all citizens of the state if elected governor of the state.

In her own response, Ayodele Mercy of the Redemption Party observed that the potentialities of women in the state have not been tapped over the years, saying “Women capacity has been left untapped in Osun State.”

Ayodele said she is going to focus on five major agenda. “I have five agenda based on empowerment scheme, workers welfare, education, rural development and agriculture.”
Ayodele also observed what goes on in the state’s health sector.

“I visited one of our public hospitals and I learnt patients are paying money to fuel generators to access health care,” she said and promised to address the issue if elected into office on Saturday.

She also promised to reduce tax for manufacturing companies to encourage them invest in the state.

She stated that improved electricity in the state will motivate manufacturers to move their factories to Osun State.

In his own comment, candidate of the Labour Party, Segun Fanibe, at the debate was not happy about the half salaries given to medical doctors in the state.

“Doctors are next to God! How can they be paid half salaries? We need to bridge the gap in the health sector and we need to employ more doctors,” he said.

Fanibe added that, “The state of health care in Osun is bad. The hospitals lack drugs. We have 600 primary health care centres in Osun State and we are about 3.4 million people. We need more health centres.

The governorship election is scheduled to hold Saturday, September 22,2018 across the state and the umpire, Independent National Electoral Commissions (INEC), is already set to conduct the poll.
