Ogun Police Boost Security at Sagamu Interchange In Response to Viral Video

 

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security measures at the Sagamu Interchange following concerns over safety in the area.

This comes in response to a viral video reporting a security breach at the popular intersection.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Omolola Odutola, the command clarified that no formal report of the alleged March 31, 2025, incident was received at any police station.

However, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has taken proactive steps to reinforce security.

“To ensure the safety of residents and commuters, the Ogun State Police Command has intensified security measures at the four intersections of the Sagamu Interchange,” the statement read.

As part of the security enhancement, personnel from the Quick Intervention Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 and 16 have been deployed to key locations, including under the bridge, roundabouts, and major access roads.

During a two-hour drone surveillance exercise, CP Ogunlowo discovered “several illegal shanties and temporary structures, along with unauthorized revenue collection activities by illegal touts.” In response, he ordered the immediate disbandment of these activities and directed the removal of unauthorized structures starting April 3, 2025. Additionally, all commercial activities under the bridge must cease immediately.

To further secure the area, the police have engaged transport unions to redirect commercial traffic to safer, well-lit zones. While emphasizing that Ogun State remains “relatively peaceful,” the command urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security measures.

“As a precautionary measure, commuters are advised to plan their travels within reasonable daylight hours or early evenings to minimize security risks,” the statement added.

The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, assuring residents that “with the heightened security presence and collaborative efforts of sister security agencies, in partnership with the Ogun State Government,” all necessary actions will be taken to eliminate insecurity.
