NSCDS’s Boss assures that the Corps under his Watch will provide Security for National Assets, Infrastructure
The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Alhaji Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has reiterated the commitment of the Corps to providing adequate security at all times in protecting the states, national assets and critical infrastructures in parts of the country .
He stated this recently while playing host to Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello who paid his a courtesy call in his office at the Headquarters of the corps in Abuja.
He also revealed that plans were underway by the Corps to organise ”Peace Clinic” to training of the Corps personnel on Peace Advocacy and Initiative, so as to enable the personnel serve as peace agents in the states, by preaching peace in communities that were ravaged with crisis.
Gana thereby solicited the support of state governors for the capacity building project.
Earlier in his remarks, Gov. Sani Bello called for the deployment more Civil Defence Corps personnel in Niger state in view of the land mass of the State, with the view to help sustain peace at the grass roots in the state .
The governor said that the state, being the largest in terms of land mass in the country required more security personnel at some local government areas.
“Niger State is a tenth of the country. The largest in terms of land mass. It will take you over 8 hours to travel from one end of the state to another. We need more of your men to help us maintain security in most of our councils.
“Whenever there are security challenges in any of our neighbouring states, residents of bordering villages to these states are worst hit. We need your officers and men at this level to help curtail any incursion and help sustain the peace being enjoyed in the state,” the governor appealed.
He therefore Nassured the Commandant General that the welfare of the personnel posted to the state is paramount to him, and he will ensure that the Corps is relocated to a befitting office accommodation very soon.
Gov. Sani Bello appreciated the efforts of the Commandant General in repositioning the Corps with the support of his able Lieutenants and appealed that, ”the Commandant General alone cannot do it without the support of all of you here, the Management Team.
”From the testimonies received from different quarters both at the State and Federal levels, about the NSCDC achievements, I want to say the Corps is very productive in addressing grey areas on security. I congratulate you and urge you to keep the spirit high”, the governor concluded.
