MHWUN National President,Biobelemoye Wins Opu-Nembe(Bassambiri) Kingship Election

 

National president,Medical and health workers Union of Nigeria, MHWUN, Josiah Biobelemoye has emerged the new traditional ruler of Opu-Nembe( Bassambiri) community of Nembe council area of Bayelsa state.

The Medical workers union boss who was among six candidates who participated in the monarchical polls conducted in the ancient community on saturday,29th May,2021 polled 64 votes out of a total 70 votes cast to defeat the former chief of Naval staff,Rear Admiral Victor Ombu(rtd) who garnered a distance five votes.

Fellow contenders for the coveted throne included former Bayelsa state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,Darius Obiene-Dede who had no vote cast in his favour and former INEC national commissioner,Baratuapre Edoghutu, respectively who got one vote at the polls.

Among the candidates also were the incumbent senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial zone,Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo and chief Kerema Monday who also lost to the MHWUN President.

Announcing the result,chairman of the electoral committee and paramount ruler of Oluasiri community, HRH Chiefson Awululu declared Mr Josiah Biobelemoye winner and returned him as the Amayanabo-elect in the presence of chiefs and elders of the community.

National wire learnt that the former monarch of the Opu-Nembe(Bassambiri),the late king Ralph Iwowari died nine years ago.

Though the Amayanabo-elect was not yet disposed to speaking with the newsmen as the time of filing in this report ,the trio of tformer chairman of the community’s council of chiefs and one time regent,chief Bomonyo Amakiri,chief Kienghosuote Monday-Degi and former Nembe council area chairman as well as one time Bayelsa state commissioner,Chief Walter Benwari described the exercise as peaceful and transparent.

They noted that as against the prediction of some people that the polls would be marred by violence,God in his infinite mercies have given the electoral umpire and the entire council of chiefs the wisdom to conduct a free,fair and credible election which they said has produced the new monarch-elect,saying that the monarch would become the eight king from the Ogbodo dynasty of Opu-Nembe(Bassambiri)

Meanwhile national wire have also gathered that Opu-Nembe(Bassambiri) have two major kingship dynasties.

They are,the Ogbodo and the Mein dynasties.
