MCDN to Host Inaugural Media Career Development Conference in Lagos

The Media Career Development Network (MCDN), a Lagos-based media training and consultancy organisation, is set to hold its inaugural Media Career Development Conference in Lagos on October 31, 2024.

According to MCDN’s Programme Manager, Dayo Emmanuel, the conference aims to promote excellence in media practice and provide career-enhancing opportunities for journalists and media professionals across Nigeria.

Emmanuel stated, “The conference, with the theme, ‘Maximising Emerging Media Career Opportunities,’ will be held at the Centre for Excellence, Biodun Shobanjo Building, in the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, beginning at 10:00 a.m.”

He further noted, “The conference is supported by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) and will feature a keynote address by David Ajikobi, Nigeria Editor at Africa Check.

Facilitators at the event

“He will speak on the ‘Present and Future of Media Work and Career.’ Joining him for discussions will be Taiwo Obe, founder and Director of the Journalism Clinic; Funke Treasure, a seasoned broadcaster; and Anita Eboigbe, Chief of Staff at Big Cabal Media.”

Other speakers include Bosede Olusola-Obasa, former Chief Correspondent of The Punch and CEO of 1st Royal Character & Values Limited, who will discuss Career Development and Mapping; Kofoworola Belo Osagie, a development journalist who will focus on Transferable Media Skills; and Adebisi Adetunji, a media and development communication specialist, who will offer insights into Maximising Multimedia Skills.

The event will also feature a Media Career Check-Up, career chat sessions on Journalism, Online Publishing, Broadcasting, Digital Media, Corporate and Development Communications, as well as an exhibition of publications by media NGOs and other organisations.

Journalists, broadcasters, media professionals, and communication students are expected to attend.

The organisers also announced that awards will be presented to individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to media career development in Nigeria.
