Major General Abubakar is dead

Former commander of the North-East counter-insurgency operation, aka, ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’, Major General Yushau Mahmood Abubakar, is dead.

Abubakar died Tuesday after sustaining injuries in an auto crash along Damaturu – Maiduguri highway.

According to Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, who confirmed the sad news in a statement, the accident occurred Tuesday evening.

Usman added that, another senior officer of the Army, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu, was also involved in the auto crash, and was rushed to the hospital. He is said to be responding to treatment.

“The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of Chief of Training and Operations of the Army, Major General Yushau Mahmood Abubakar in a road accident along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road today. (Tuesday)

“He was the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole before his recent deployment to Army Headquarters, Abuja.

“The road accident also involved the Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu who sustained some injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.”
