A magistrate sitting in Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos State has discharged a 58-year-old woman, Leticia Ugwu, charged with beating and biting a pregnant woman.
The Magistrate Court discharged the accused for lack of interest by complainant.
The defendant was charged to court on November 13, 2018 on one count of assault, which she pleaded not guilty.
While the complainant continued to be absence in court over ten times, the Magistrate, Mr. B. M. Amore, struck out the case.
“Having heard the prosecution’s application to strike out the suit for lack of interest by the complainant, the case is hereby struck out.
The defendant allegedly beat up her pregnant neighbour, the complainant, Mrs Chioma Mazu at Anthony Agbaje street, Apapa.
However, the court granted her bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two responsible sureties.
The offence according to the prosecutor, Sgt. Kolade Tedunjaiye contravened the provisions of Section 172 of the Lagos State Criminal Code Laws, 2015 which stipulated one year imprisonment for assault offence.
