The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi on Friday paraded one Okada rider identified as Dahiru as being responsible for the killing and setting ablaze of one David Sunday on the 12th of May, 2022, at Lekki.
Parading the six suspects arrested with some other criminals, CP Alabi explained that about 0630hrs, at Studio 24, Lekki, Lagos, an okada rider by name Dahiru, a male had a quarrel with his passengers by name Frank Olatunji and Philip Balogun both males over the bike fare.
In the heat of the argument, Frank Olatunji and Philip Balogun invited the one David Sunday to mediate only for Dahiru and his cohorts to violently attack him, kill before setting him ablazed.
While adding that a total of six suspects have been arrested namely Dahiru Ayuba, Susan Moses, a female, Christopher Dauda, Joseph Tella, Chigozie Anthony, Sunday Azi, added that the suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
In his brief, CP Alabi said that the command has made remarkable achievements in the fight against crime and criminality within Lagos State in the past one month or thereabout.
Among the suspects were those involved in varying crimes including armed robbery, conspiracy, cultism, unlawful possession of fire arms, murder.
A breakdown indicated that 15 locally made pistols, 68 live cartridges, four handsets, one axe, charms, two cutlasses,one saw, one pounding pistol, one female bag, one tortoise were recovered from the victims.
It was also learnt that on the 23rd, April, 2022, one Aji Augustine of Ibeju Lekki, Lagos went to receive food items sent to him by his mother from Cross River State through a driver who mistakenly gave him a sack that was meant to be delivered to someone else.
When he opened the sack, he discovered seven locally made pistols. He rushed to the nearest police division and handover the arms.
Upon receipt of the case, detectives embarked on diligent investigation that led to the arrest of one Joseph Ashiwobel, who dispatched the sack from Calabar to Lagos.
During interrogation, he confessed that he had sold many guns to his customers here in Lagos and he led operatives to arrest two of his buyers one Rasheed Ogunbade, a 39 years old man and Aladeokin Ahmad, a 38 years old.
Also, one locally made shot gun bought from Joseph Ashiwobel was recovered. Investigation is still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects in order to recover more of the guns he had sold to people in Lagos.
Also arrested for conspiracy, armed robbery and murder on the 10th May, 2022, about 0915hrs, based on available information.
It was learnt that a team of detectives of the Lagos State Command swung into action and arrested some armed robbery suspects in their hideout situated around Ojo area of the State and recovered exhibits in their possession.
The names of these suspects are Gambo Abdulhadi, 28 years, Eric Komi, 19 years, Yusuf Ibrahim, 15 years and Suleiman Alhassan, 25 years. Seven locally made pistols, 68 live cartridges, cutlasses, axe, charms, four mobile phones, tortoise and a female bag were recovered from the suspects.
A cultist identified as Ayo Dada now deceased and two others who were cult members were killed by some suspected rival cult members at Ketu, Mile 12, Lagos.
On 21st February, 2022, one Sunday Tomoloju and other members of his cult group went on a reprisal mission to avenge their late members, and killed one Adesegun Adesanya ‘m’ a.k.a. Ologodudu.
Upon receipt of this information, detectives tracked down the principal suspect Sunday Tomoloju in his remote stronghold where he was apprehended.
During investigation, the suspect made a confessional statement to the commission of the said crime. Investigation is still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects in a bid to recover their operational weapons.
