Six months after the administration of former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the state’s ministry of education still featured names of officers in the former administration on the website of the department until recently.
Mr. Ambode’s Deputy, Dr. (Mrs.) Idiat Oluranti Adebule according to the website was still the Commissioner for Education meaning the website was never updated six months into the new administration.
A story by National Wire had revealed that the website was not updated. As usual, other blogs feasted on the story after confirming that the website had remained the same despite the swearing in of the new administration headed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The concerned Ministry of Education however got the wind of the information and had to remove the old content from the website.
Meanwhile, National Wire would be happier if the concerns of rural communities reported in the story are also swiftly attended to same way the
old content of the website was pulled.
It would be recalled that National Wire mentioned in its earlier report visible via https://nationalwire.com.ng/we-need-functioning-schools-like-other-lagos-communities-riverine-communities-demand-from-lasg/ that about 37 rural communities have access to only one public secondary school which is a major concern in the riverine communities clustering around Ojo Local Government Area of the state.
Stakeholders in the communities are eagerly hopeful that the state would someday come to their rescue with more educational facilities.
Olomometa community which is the site of the primary school established by the Salvation Army in 1940 is still yearning for support. According to a resident missionary in the village, Pastor Nnnana Nwigwe, the school which is in the shadows of itself is not running the way it should run.
Nwigwe who runs a mission school for children in the village is looking forward to starting a secondary school to run as the first secondary school for Olomometa and few other riverine communities in the area. He told National Wire that the traditional ruler of the community has given his mission a piece of land to expand the school project.
Hopefully in the New Year, some rural communities would heave a sigh of relief when the government comes to their aid with more schools as the Ministry of Education has updated the page on its website listing its Principal officers (https://education.lagosstate.gov.ng/category/principal-officers/)
