The border Community of Ishiayi in the Ahoada West council area of Rivers state has lauded the duo of the Rivers state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and the Ahoada West council Chairman, Hon. Hope Ikiriko for prevailing on the independent national electoral Commission (INEC) to delineate new polling Units for the community.
Speaking through their Deputy paramount, HRH David Promise, the community hinted that though they were a new community which was founded out of its old sister Mbiama community, Ishiayi community until the coming onboard of the Governor Wike’s administration and that of the incumbent Chairman of the Ahoada West council area had previously existed without a single polling unit.
HRH David Promise revealed that prior to the delimitation of the new polling units to the community most residents of the area were disenfranchised for lack of a single polling unit where they would have exercised their electoral franchise, noting however that as democrats, a handful of them were used to exercising their franchise in polling units in their neighbouring Mbiama Community.
National Wire source revealed that Ishayi community of Ahoada West council area of Rivers state though a relatively new and young community migrated from Mbiama Community to settle in their aboriginal land which shares land borders with Igbogene community of Yenagoa council area of Bayelsa state.
National Wire reports that until recently when the independent national electoral Commission (INEC) carried out new delineation of polling units, Ishiayi community had remained without even a single polling unit, making most of the community’s residents to have political apathy even though the community has a relatively large voting population.
The Community said: “We thank the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and the Ahoada West local government chairman, Hon. Hope Ikiriko for considering our community for polling units during the recent delimitation of new polling units by INEC. Ishiayi community now have units 10, 11 and 12 of Ahoada West LGA ward two. Before now we never had even a single polling unit, even though we’re a community of our own.
“Though some of us do register and vote in Mbiama Community due to the lack of units here. But now that we have units it would encourage our people and residents here to whole heartedly participate in the electoral processes”.
Meanwhile, the community has also pleaded with the Rivers state government and the Niger Delta development Commission (NDDC) to build them a primary school, noting that the existing primary school in the community does not have a proper structure as either the government and the NDDC have not built them one.
This was just as the community has also pleaded with the government and the Niger Delta development Commission (NDDC) to amongst other things construct paved internal roads and health centre in the neighbouring community to give them better sense of belonging.
