Bottom line
a) Lagos State alone accounts for on the average about 40% of the cumulative IGR for the entire federation.
b) There is not a single state from the three northern geo-political zones that is among the top 10 highest IGR. All are from the South.
c) Of the top 10 States, five are from the South-South, 3 from South-West and 2 from the South-East.
d) There is only one state from the South that is amongst the bottom 10 (lowest IGR), that is EKITI State. All the rest are from the North, with 4 from the North East, 3 from the North Central and 2 from the North-West.
e) There is extreme inequality amongts the 36 states of the Federation. Lagos IGR in the period under consideration is 100 times of that Borno and 20 times that of Kano (with roughly the same population).
f) Grand total of 2.8 trillion Naira indicates that a lot needs to be done to improve IGR if the Nigerian 36 States are to survive the dwindling oil revenues.
