Dr Boniface Igbeneghu, a senior lecturer and pastor at Foursquare Gospel Church has been reportedly rushed to the hospital after attempting suicide over the sex for grade scandal, an online discussion platform, Nairaland has disclosed..
According to an eye witness who craves anonymity, it was said that the lecturer was admitted to the hospital after he drank rat poison in an attempt to kill himself.
In the late hours of Monday evening, Igbeneghu was found on the floor unconscious with bubbles in his mouth, he was said to have been rushed to Reddington hospital on Victoria Island, Lagos.
Igbeneghu was suspended by the University of Lagos and Foursquare Gospel Church after being filmed demanding sex from a lady supposedly seeking admission into the institution.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe confirmed on Monday that the lecturer had been suspended indefinitely.
“A panel will be set up to investigate the issue” he said.
Also on Monday, Ikechukwu Ugbaja, the National Secretary of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria made a statement to announce Igbeneghu’s suspension saying appropriate measures would be taken on the matter.
“The general public is hereby informed that as holiness and Bible-believing church, we do not condone such heinous and unscriptural acts among our ministers, we totally dissociate ourselves from the purported conduct of Dr. Igbeneghu and promise to take appropriate measures as soon as the ongoing investigation is concluded. Meanwhile, the pastor in question has been asked to step-down from all ministerial assignments,” he said.
Igbeneghu was exposed in a video on BBC Africa Eye making amorous advance on an undercover journalist, disguised as a 17-year-old admission seeker offering her wine and asked her to switch off the light in the room so that he could kiss her. According to Naij.com, the young lady refused and Igbeneghu stood up to switch off the light himself before going back on the sofa they both seated to pull her close to himself.
As the video went viral, reactions rose from all across the country calling for a quick action by the government to eradicate sexual harassment in higher institutions in the country to make students safe in institutions across the country.
