No fewer than three soldiers and one local vigilante group member have been killed by unidentified gunmen, suspected to be armed bandits who came to attack their victims in their numbers on motorcycles in Yakila village of Rafi local government area of Niger state.
National gathered that this followed the abduction of a Chinese expatriate staff of a construction company along side with his driver at a construction site in Yakila village of the Council area by the fleeing gunmen recently who fled into the nearby forest to an unknown destination in a bid to evade Police arrest, thereby leading to the deployment of security personnel to the area.
According to an eye witness who craved for anonymity in an interview by telephone by our reporter, adding that both the soldiers and vigilante member were at Yakila village to rescue the Chinese exprtriate staff and his driver who were abducted by gunmen but lost their lives in an exchange of gun fire with bandits numbering about thirty.
Again according to another eye witness who told our reporter that two motorcycles were seen inside their Toyota Hilux Van with one arrest made and with the security Operatives tying the suspect’s face with cloth
The reliable source added that the corpses of the attackers suspected to be bandits were sighted in the busy but cannot tell the exalt number.
Consequently, the bandits were said to be heavily armed while they were said to be about with their operational motorbikes, numbering about 15 motorcycles with some of their members on top the motorbikes.
But despite repeated phone calls and text messages, the Image Maker of the Niger State Police Command, ASP Wasiu Abiodun for confirmation of incident, he did not respond to the text messages nor picked the phone calls, as the time of filling in this report on Tuesday in the afternoon.
But responding to the ugly incidence, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello on Security matters Colonel MK Maikudi (retired) confirmed the incident.
He said security agencies have mobilised their personnel to the troubled area and have re- strategize there by deploying their operatives to the area where they also killed some of the suspected armed bandits.
