A Civil Society group, Congress for Rights Of Yoruba Nationalities (CROYN), has warned the Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation against “peddling unverified and un-substantiated allegation aimed at heating up the polity, causing disaffection and threatening the peace in the country which has received a boost since the emergence of the new government last May.”
The group gave the caution in a statement by its national President Abiodun Fanoro, while reacting to a claim credited to the Director of Media of the Campaign Organisation, Diran Onifade that it had intelligence reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were jointly plotting to doctor the results of last February 25, Presidential Election in the Federal Capital Territory,(FCT) in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The group queried the intention of the unsubstantiated allegation “at this point in the journey of the 2023 presidential election, other than to re-mobilse tension-making machines and once again put Nigerians against themselves as was the case during the campaign and months preceding the swearing-in of the new President.
The statement observed that Labour Party and its officials, including Mr.Onifade, as responsible, obedient and patriotic corporate and individual citizens ought to know what to do if truly they were in possession of valid and credible intelligence reports capable of leading to committing crimes and breach of peace, which was to discretely approach relevant security agencies with facts of the reports.
CROYN further observed that Labour Party with its team of first-class lawyers at the Tribunal knew it had the right to alert the tribunal where it had fresh evidence or where it genuinely feared that crimes likely ti undermine the work of the Court were about to be committed, adding that “failure to do the needful in this case certainly rendered the allegation a false and meant to cause judicial stampede or destabilisation in the polity.”
“We therefore urged Labour party to remember that the period of campaign which was characterised by obscenous propaganda, Amalgedionic and hate prophecies is long over, just as voters such a false alarm is targetted, for now are on break while the tribunal is immuned to propaganda”.
The group however charged relevant security agencies not fail in their duty by inviting Mr. Onifade and other officials of the party who had the said intelligence reports, to submit them and further assist them to get to the root of the alleged plot to doctor rhe FCT’s Presidential election results.
