The peace that had existed in the ancient town of Ilorin, Kwara State, was at the weekend shattered when four persons were killed in the Kwara State capital.
Fight reportedly broke out between members of two rival cult groups over supremacy claim.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Sunday last week, suspected members of cult groups struck at Ikokoro/Sakamo area of the city and the clash resulted to the death of a boy identified as Wasiu.
The latest clash among the cult groups was recorded at Babaoko, Ita-Amodu and Agbo-Oba areas of the metropolis between Saturday night and 4 a.m. on Sunday, brewing tension in the areas as residents scampered for safety.
According to an eye witness on Sunday, at the end of the clash, four persons including a 20- year-old man were allegedly shot.
The anonymous witness said that, members of “Aiye” Confraternity first struck at Babaoko around 9.30 p.m. Saturday night and two lives were allegedly lost.
The aggrieved suspects however left Baboko for Ita-Amodu and Agbo-0ba areas of the capital on revenge mission.
Spokesperson of the state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident, and one death.
“I can confirm to you that one person has been killed by the suspected cultists and this happened at Babaoko area of Ilorin.
“Men of the state police command have taken his corpse to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital,” he said.
Okasanmi however warned cultists to stay away from the state, promising that anyone caught would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
