Army trains 272 NSCDC officers in weapon handling in Niger

The Commandant, Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)Mr. Philip Ayuba has charged some 272 Corps members that participated in its Course 4, 2016 training’ to exhibit Professional conducts, warning that the Officers and Men should not use the knowledge they have so far acquired to intimidate or oppress members of the Nigerian public while discharging their duties.He handed down the warning on Saturday at the Course 4, 2016 graduation of the Corps members that were trained on basic regiment of weapon handling by 31 Field Artillery Command of the Nigerian Army’s instructors in Minna, the state capital. ‎

Ayuba advised the graduands to always exhibit professionalism and put into practice the rules of engagement of the Command while discharging their duties in a well dignified manner that will not jeopardise the vision and mission of NSCDC’s High Command.

He told the trained officers and men who participated at the four weeks intensive course on weapon handling to conduct themselves in a manner that will portray the image of the service and the Nigerian Army in terms of ethics in positive light.

“Any officer that uses the training he or she has acquired to intimidate or oppress a common man on the streets will be dealt with appropriately,” he warned.

The Commandant, thereby commended the Artillery Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army for the knowledge impacted on his officers and men, highlighting that the training will add value to the Corps.

Also in his remarks at the brief ceremony, the Artillery Commander, 31 Field Artillery Brigade, Nigeria Army, Minna, Brigadier General Moshood Olarewanju Jimoh who was represented by the Garison Commander, Col. Kaumi Zanna charged the graduands to utilise the skills and all they have learnt to protect the Federal Government’s assets and other Critical Infrastructures in parts of the state.

Also, the Commanding Officer of Artillery Regiment, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel J.C. Mbanefo also noted that the participants showed a lot of interest in learning and in character during the course of the training which had enhanced the smooth conduct of weapon handling.

Mbanefo said “it is customary in Nigeria Army to organise a passing out ceremony for the personnel who undergo a course in the Nigeria Army.”

He gave the break down of the training which include, weapon handling which comprises both practical and theoretical.

Others are basic military training which involved foot and arms drills, minor tactics, physical fitness and contemporary security challenges facing the country.

According to him, out of the 272 officers and men that participated in the training their performance was graded as follows, 60 percent of them scored above average, 25 percent scored average and 15 percent below average.
