As tension mounts ahead of the Rivers State governorship election, former governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi has assured Rivers State residence not to panic as President Buhari has assured the state of adequate security.
Amaechi spoke in Port Harcourt to newsmen that the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state have nothing to fear.
“Tell them not to be afraid, the President has assured all of us of security, you will see security that day”.
“Anybody who has a gun should bring out his gun that day”
“Those who have guns in the state should bring them out, they will see guns that day”.
“When it comes to voting, PDP cannot defeat us.
Commissioner of information for the state, said suspects already arrested for the violence, have provided intelligence to the Police in the state.
He claimed that the spate of violence was as a result of cultism, not politics.
“Those people already detained are providing the Police with information they will use to track down others.”
“What we’ve see the APC do is that they claim every person that is dead is their member, and it is a very unfortunate situation when a political party begins to romanticise death in this manner”
“The Rivers People should be allowed to make their choices in a violence free atmosphere” he said.
In recent times, killings in river state have reached an alarming rate ahead of the re-run of the State and National Assembly elections scheduled to hold on March 19.
According to reports, about 30 persons have been killed in the violence.
Amaechi, who stated that the APC has about a million voters in River State, enjoined party members to troop out to vote during the re-run election, stating that, if a million APC voters exercise their franchise, it would be difficult for any party to defeat them.
