Acting paramount ruler of Ovom community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, HH Loveday Rufus Abaribote has said there was nothing as important as the maintenance of peace and order in any community that desires progress.
The royal father stated this while fielding questions from newsmen recently in his hometown.
He hinted that the community whose tenures for its Community Development Committee (CDC) executives and the youth council has expired has been very calm even as the community tends to obey all existing court injunctions baring any body or group from parading as leaders of the community.
HH Abaribote who also bared his mind on the existing relationship between his community and the State Government noted that there was a cordial relationship between both parties.
He maintained that while looking forward to a peaceful election for the installation of a substantive paramount ruler for the community, one thing the Ovom people would want the Government to consider is the upgrade of the Chieftaincy stool to a first class upon the election.
He said: “For now in Ovom the tenures of both the CDC, Youth Exco and others have expired. We’re all now obeying a court injunction which says no body or group should parade themselves as leaders of this community.
” But I’m also contesting for the paramount ruler position in the forthcoming election of the community. if I win what the community will be working towards is to upgrade our chieftaincy stool from its present class to first class, that’s because all communities which host the capital of any state in Nigeria are in the first class category.
“Infact most persons don’t even know that this community, Ovom is bigger than what you see here. We’re thinking of making it very formal soon that we’ve Ovom one, two and three.
“We believe that because we’ve a very cordial relationship with the Government they’ll also do the needful for us. As you can see we don’t have farm lands again because of the number of Government infrastructure and offices built on our land. So we believe the Government would do us well when a substantive paramount ruler is elected and enthroned soon”.
