The legislative arm of the Oyo State Government; the Oyo State House of Assembly is set to curb activities of land grabbers in the state.
This is coming just a week after neighbouring Ogun State passed a bill into law, restraining the activities of such individuals who had terrorised citizens for ages.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a motion moved by Mr. Olalere Safiu a member of the House of Assembly was moved on “Need to Curb Activities of Land Grabbers in Oyo State.”
The Lawmaker said the importance of land to economic development of the state could not be overemphasised because resources needed in wealth creation such as minerals are found in the earth. He however frowned against activities of land grabbers who even go tot he extent of using dangerous weapons and charms to disposes rightful land owners of their properties.
In his words, “Efforts of judges and lawyers oftentimes do not save the victims because of the delay in passing judgement on cases involving land matter.” “The State Assembly needs to come out with a law that will enable the miscreants and others involved in such acts punished.”
Reacting, Speaker of the House, Mr Michael Adeyemo, assured that the State House of Assembly swing into action by making sure that a bill to address the issue came up. he aded that the bill to end the criminal act would be enacted in December.
