Dr. Daniel Olukoya, the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), has urged believers to be intentional and aggressive in breaking negative habits that hinder spiritual growth.
Speaking during a recent sermon streamed on YouTube, Olukoya warned that habitual sins and character flaws can form spiritual strongholds that limit a believer’s destiny.
“Because habits are habitual and automatic, you sometimes need to be very stubborn with them to break them off,” he stated. “That’s why the Bible uses words like stronghold, slavery, and bondage to describe them.”
Olukoya explained that even sinful thoughts, if unchecked, can evolve into deeply ingrained habits. “Sinful thoughts can form a habit. If you don’t take control of them early, they eventually become a negative cycle,” he warned.
The renowned deliverance minister listed several dangerous habits that Christians must urgently eliminate, including anger, materialism, arrogance, and criticism. He noted that some believers constantly crave material possessions. “When you see this shoe, you want it. You see another, you want that one too. It becomes a destructive pattern,” he said.
Olukoya also emphasized that arrogance is a destructive habit. “Criticism is another one. Some people can’t do anything themselves, but they will criticize and tear down others with their mouths,” he added.
Disrespect, envy, sarcasm, stubbornness, greed, jealousy, unforgiveness, and worry were also highlighted as spiritual pitfalls. He particularly pointed out sarcasm cloaked in worldly reasoning, using an example: “What is a beautiful girl like you doing at Mountain of Fire?” he quoted mockers as saying, describing such speech as sarcastic and spiritually toxic.
He concluded by stressing that some of these habits become compulsive and enslaving, thereby distancing believers from God’s purpose. “These are habits that must be killed before they kill you,” he warned.
Olukoya’s message served as a wake-up call for Christians to examine their lives, break free from bondage, and pursue holiness with intentional discipline and prayer.
