Corps commander,Federal Roads Safety Corps,FRSC, Bayelsa state sector commander,Robert Ogom has alleged that the forging of fake drivers licenses by touts and other criminal elements in the state poses major threat in the operation of the Corps.
Ogom hinted Newsmen this in Yenagoa during the week in an interview with him.
He noted that while the mandate of the Corps is to operate in all motorable roads across the country,production of fake drivers licenses by unsuspecting touts in the Corps’ partner state owned internal revenue board has hindered its functions, saying it is partly responsible for the continued existence of unqualified drivers on roads within and outside the state.
The sector commander reiterated the commitment of the corps to ensuring that all motorable environment in their operational jurisdiction are safe,emphasising that part of their core mission is to regulate, enforce and coordinate all road traffic and safety management activities.
“Our mission statement reads: to regulate, enforce and coordinate all road traffic and safety management activities”, he said.
” These would be ensured through effective patrol operation,prompt rescue services,improved vehicle administration and sustained public enlightenment as well as promotion of stakeholders cooperation and robust data management”, he added.
According to the state FRSC helmsman upon his assumption of office as the Corps Commander one problem he noticed was the incessant parkings and unauthorised bus stops used by transporters and vehicle owners plying in the state capital.
He expressed his readiness to collaborate with the state Ministry of Transport and sister agencies to curbing the menace associated with this,calling on the Government to mark out bus stops and appropriate parking points within the state capital so as to checkmate illegal bus stops.
In same vein the sector commander has expressed his satisfaction on the compliance to Covid-19 protocols by vehicle owners and transporters in the state.
He noted that reports reaching him from his Officers and Men show that motorists are adhering strictly to the pandemic control rules and regulations for passengers.
