President Donald Trump has said the military would not have to shoot at migrants if they throw stones at the troops as the foreigners approach the U.S. border.
This is in an apparent effort by Trump to clarify his statement on Thursday that if migrants attacked the guards with stones,they would be treated as those firing gunshots.
He has now reversed the statement, saying those who so atack the troop will be arrested for “a long time,” according to CNN.
The Nigerian Army had shared on its verified social media handle the video of the U.S.President where he suggested that the US troops he dispatched to the US-Mexico border could fire on someone in the migrant caravan if the person threw rocks at them.
The Nigerian Army wrote on the video it shared on Thursday that Nigerians should make their deductions.
This came in the wake of a clash in Abuja between the Nigerian Army and the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) in which the official casualty figure was put at four, even as the Shiite followers of the incarcerated Ibraheem El-Zazzaky claimed about 40 of their members were killed.
Nigerian Army said in a statement that the IMN members barricaded the highway and pelted its troops with stones during the movement of military wares to a permanent depot in Kaduna.
The IMN had embarked on a demonstration to demand the release of their leader and his wife that the government has held in its custody for more than 1000 days.
Members of the public subsequently condemned the Army over the use of live ammunition against civilians armed with sticks and sling shots.
But the Army said its men were left with no choice as the Shiite members appeared ready to over power the troops before a reinforcement from a nearby battalion came to their rescue.
