2023 Polls: NEMA Calls For Proactive Measures For Violence Free Elections

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, has called for proactive measures to prevent violence during the electioneering period in Niger State in particular  and the country at large.

Head NEMA Minna Operations Office, Hajiya Zainab Sai’du made the call in a statement to newsmen  on Thursday in Minna

She however advocated for proactive measures to be taken by relevant stakeholders in order to prevent electoral crises in Niger State, before,  during and after the forthcoming general elections.

Sai’du opined  that only by taking proactive as well as preventative measures would ensure peaceful and orderly electoral process.

She said the agency was concerned about the potential of electoral violence and unrest which can have devastating effects on lives and properties of the people of the state and the country as a whole.

According to her, “the agency is calling on all political actors, community leaders, and registered voters  to exercise their franchise  peacefully and refrain from any form of violence or intimidation during the electioneering period.

She added that prevention was best in disaster management, hilighting that it was expedient for the agency which was responsible for managing disasters to continue to sensitise the people on the need to remain peaceful,law abiding,  particularly during the conduct of the forthcoming  2023 general elections.

The Head of Minna Operations office,NEEMA also  called on politicians to ensure that their supporters operate within the ambit of the law, urging them to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and channel their grievances to the appropriate constituted authorities.

She thereby called on the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to prevent and manage electoral crises that may arise  through training of its officials and adequate deployment of security personnel.

She also called on patriotic and well meaning Nigerians to support the agency’s efforts in promoting peace and stability defore, during and after  the electioneering period for peaceful and successful polls at the states and national levels.
