WOWICAN Southwest Plans Anniversary, Empowerment, Seeks Recognition of Women in Decision Making

The Women Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) Southwest Zone, said it is set to hold its 10th anniversary alongside empowerment of women, awards presentations and investiture of dignitaries.

The four-in-one event with the theme, ‘Repositioning Women For Growth and Development’, is scheduled to hold Wednesday 14 to Sunday 17 August at the Apostolic Church of Nigeria, LAWNA Territory, Olorunda Ketu, Lagos State.

WOWICAN Southwest Chairperson,Most Senior Mother-in-Israel, Prophetess Odunola Raji-Adebesin, said the theme was influenced by the situation in the country and prevailing outdated perceptions about women’s roles, stressing that the dignity of women deserves due recognition and positive appraisal.

“Without mincing word, the position of women in any social organization cannot be underrated and overestimated because, by divine work of God, women are so important because of their meaningful contributions to the success of any association, organization, family, church and communities.

“Women are precious ornaments and magnificent creature that always ready to sacrifice whatever they have for the growth and development of wherever they find themselves. Hence, the need for them to be duly recognised,” Raji-Adebesin stated.

Speaking further on the recognition of women’s involvement in decision making, she stated:”I want leaders at all levels to consider women in decision making especially in the sharing of positions either political or spiritual because what a man can do a woman can do better.”

On the state of the state of the nation, she noted: “The state of our nation is extremely bad. I want to advise the President to stand firm and take decisive steps in alleviating the suffering of the people especially in terms of hunger, unemployment and security.”
