Concerned about human lives, rendering of humanitarian services and the need to care for the well-being of troops and their families, the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto has provided a free eye care outreach in commemoration of World Sight Day 2025.
The theme of the two-days medical initiative: “Love Your Eyes: Access to Eye Care for All,” was kicked off on Thursday, 9 October, at the Lieutenant General T.Y. Buratai Auditorium, Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto.
It was learnt that the programme featured eye consultations, vision screenings, provision of medications, and free eyeglasses for personnel and their dependants.
In his remarks during the event, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division and Commander Sector 2, Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FASSAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, said that access to quality eye care is vital for operational effectiveness and the overall welfare of military personnel.
He was represented by Commander, 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Mohammed, who commended the initiative.
Before the exercise kicked off, there was a rally within the cantonment to sensitize participants on the importance of regular eye checks and preventive vision care.
The free medical services was an affirmation of the Nigerian Army’s dedication to promoting the health of personnel, their families and their host communities by helping to prevent avoidable blindness thereby building a virile, healthier and a productive combative force.
