A fully loaded trailer this afternoon had its head cut off by a moving train around Ashade area of Agege, Lagos.
According to eye witness report, the train was coming from Ikeja and approaching Agege when the incident occurred near the Ashade market around Guiness, Ikeja.
A tricycle operator told National Wire that after the accident, the trailer owners called the police and men of the Lagos Neighborhood Watch to come to their aid and protect the goods from vandals.
As at 6:30pm, a crowd had already gathered and as night falls, only the presence of armed policemen could protect the goods from being plundered.
Another passerby said, “Only divine providence saved the day when the train crashed into the trailer, cutting the head portion away.
“Vehicles were struggling to cross the rail line when commuters heard the hooting of the train,” the eye witness said.
Continuing, he said, “When it was the trailer’s turn, it was too late. Being heavy with load, the driver wanted to reverse but it seemed the reverse gear did not work, then suddenly the train caught up with it.”
As at presstime, the trailer is still on its side across the road and if it is not evacuated, it may jeopardise movement on Monday morning, locking up the entire area.
