Old Students of Titcombe College, Egbe, Kogi State 1988/1993 set have unveiled a new gate for their prestigious alma mater.
At a ceremony yesterday, Principal of the college, Mr. Onirinwa appreciated the gesture of the old students who were thoughtful enough to give back to the college after 26 years.
Principal Onirinwa, also an old student who graduated from the college in the early 80s, appreciated the gesture and prayed passionately for members of the set
“I thank the almighty God that you are able to come here safely towards the project you have done. My prayer is that each of you, wherever you are working, God will bless you,” he prayed.
Praying further, Onirinwa said, “Since you have not forgotten your source, I thank you for coming and I pray that you will get to your destinations safely in Jesus name.”
Chairman of the planning committee, Port Harcourt-based Engineer Kehinde Ojuekaiye also at the event appreciated his classmates for supporting the project.
He also appreciated those who out of their tight schedules were able to make out time to attend the first reunion of the set.
Ojuekaiye told National wire that it would make no sense for the set to embark on such a project without soliciting God’s backing.
“It will be foolhardy of us to do a thing of this magnitude without divine backing, I will not be part of such,” he said.
Talking about the project, Ojuekaiye said, “The gate project was a success and well appreciated by the Titcombe College community. It was an overall success and I thank God for enabling us to conceive, embark on the project and complete it.”
Representatives of the current students and members of staff were also on ground at the unveiling of the new gate.
Members of the set had traveled from across Nigeria to witness the event. Among them were Lagos- based Tayo Mudashir Olayiwola, Emily Aderewa Ojo (nee Medaiyese) from Ibadan, Gbenga Olorunmola from Kano, and Yinka Silas from Ilorin.
Others at the event were Mayowa Adesoye (nee Adeyemi) and Tosho Joel both from Abuja. Also at the event were Toyin Kowontan, Bose Abe, Marylyn Jaiyeoba, Esther Adebayo, Siji Aina, Olumide Olayinka and Kehinde Oshe among several other greats.
The set however proceeded to Tobiloba event centre, Oke Egbe for a get together and networking session.
The feat of the class of ’93 however filtered into the quiet town as members of the community continue to eullogise the set. A senior citizen in the community and member of the 1970/1974 set, Oloye Segun Lijadu Agbebi congratulated the set as he blessed the team in Yoruba language.
“Congratulations to you set 1988/1993. Owo ti e na ko ni gbe. Abudi niti omi okun, abudi ni ti olosa, Olorun Olodumare yoo fi owo pupo ropo fun gbogbo yin pata. E ku ishe o. Iwaju ni opa ebiti yin yio maa re si o,” he prayed in Yoruba language.
Another senior citizen and old student that enrolled in Titcombe College in 1966, Navy Captain J.A. Bamisaiye (Retd.) appreciated the set and prayed for the team. “Well done to all members of TC set 1988/1993. The Lord will crown all those who beautified the gates of our beloved TC Egbe Gates, our Jerusalem,” Bamisaiye prayed.
Established March 1951 by missionaries of the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) that later metamorphosed to the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA), Titcombe College, a beautifully planned institution was named after North American missionary, Rev. Tommy Titcombe.
Titcombe worked in Egbe and its environ preaching the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ in the early 1900s along with his team.
The legacy they left behind has outlived even their children and in recent time, The Evangelical Church of West Africa has again metamorphosed to be known as Evangelical Church Wining All (ECWA). The message has not changed but keeps transforming lives of current and old students including the set that enrolled January 1988.
