Tinubu Suspends National Social Investment Programme Amid Alleged Misconduct

President Bola Tinubu has temporarily halted all operations conducted by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), citing an ongoing investigation into alleged malfeasance within the agency’s management.

In a statement released on Friday, Director of Information for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, revealed that President Tinubu has suspended all four programs administered by NSIPA, including the N-Power Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, and Home Grown School Feeding Programme. This suspension is initially set for a six-week period.

President Tinubu expressed concern over operational lapses and improprieties related to payments to the beneficiaries of these programs. To address these issues, he has established a ministerial panel tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of NSIPA’s operations and recommending necessary reforms.

During the suspension, all NSIPA-related activities, such as distributions, events, payments, collaborations, and registrations, will be frozen. President Tinubu assured stakeholders and Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to a swift and impartial process, ensuring that social intervention programs align with their intended purpose, benefiting the most vulnerable Nigerians.

In response to the alleged financial malfeasance, President Tinubu suspended the Chief Executive Officer of NSIPA, Halima Shehu, on January 2. Dr Akindele Egbuwalo, the National N-POWER Program Manager, has been appointed in an acting capacity as NC/CEO during the investigation, following Halima Shehu’s suspension, just three months after her Senate confirmation.
