Early Career and Rise to Prominence

Thompson’s journey began in 1989 when he joined the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He spent 24 years in banking supervision, honing his skills and expertise in corporate governance, risk management, and compliance. His analytical mind and cross-functional teamwork made him a valuable asset to the CBN.

Leadership Roles and Achievements

Thompson’s contributions to the CBN were invaluable. He chaired the Bank-wide Committee for the Review/Drafting of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, leading to the enactment of BOFIA 2020. He also participated in key committees, including the CBN/NDIC Technical Committee on Problem Banks and the Banking Sector Consolidation Committee.

Awards and Recognition

Thompson’s outstanding work did not go unnoticed. He received several awards, including the Best Staff of Banking Supervision Department in 2001 and a Letter of Commendation from the CBN Board of Directors in 2009 for his exceptional performance during the Banking Sector Reforms Programme.

Academic Excellence

Thompson’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He graduated with First Class Honours in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University in 1985 and later earned his MBA and Doctorate Degree in Management. His academic excellence earned him the Federal Government of Nigeria Merit Award for Academic Excellence in 1985.

New Chapter: Leading NDIC

In July 2025, Thompson was appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), a testament to his expertise and leadership abilities. With his wealth of experience, he is poised to drive the NDIC’s mission and contribute to the growth and stability of Nigeria’s financial sector.
