Take-off of HYPADEC, will alleviate sufferings of communities- Niger govt

Niger state government, has said that the immediate take-off of Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) would alleviate the sufferings of communities affected by the activities of the hydroelectric power stations in five HYPPADEC states.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Hon. Ibrahim Isa Ladan made the disclosure when he received the National Youth Movement(NYM) for the Creation of HYPPADEC led by its National President, Comrade Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi in his Office.

The SSG told members of the organisation that the struggle for the actualization of HYPPADEC was a patriotic move to help communities hitherto neglected, after sacrificing their lands and ancestral homes for the construction of hydroelectric dams.

Hon. Isa Ladan explained that HYPADDEC members States have been brainstorming and will come up with workable solutions on how best to approach the realization of the full establishment and take-off of the Commission within the shortest possible time.

He commended the efforts of the former Governors and legislators of HYPPADEC States for their zeal, commitment and follow up that led to the passage and assent of the Bill by the former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2010.

Earlier in his remarks, the national president, NYM for the Creation of HYPPADEC, Comrade Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi disclosed that the organisation has been advocating and working assiduously towards the creation and take-off of HYPPADEC since 2008.

The national president , however commended Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state for his doggedness and commitment in the actualization of HYPPADEC which was evident by the recent stakeholders meeting of HYPPADEC, held in Abuja last month.

In a related development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, Jibrin Baba Ndace who is also a member of the organisation revealed that the establishment of HYPPADEC would bring lasting solution to the menace of incessant flooding to communities hosting hydroelectric dams in the five member states.
