The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu, has said the Agency received a distress call from the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) officials regarding a man who reportedly jumped into the lagoon around the Lekki Toll Gate bridge at about 09:58 am on Friday.
The footage which was captured through the close circuit cameras revealed that the man suddenly pulled off his clothes and shoe and, realising that there was no one around him, jumped into the lagoon.
According to Tiamiu, the Agency immediately activated its emergency response with other stakeholders which include the Lagos State Waterways Authority, Marine Police, Lagos State Ambulance Services and the Nigerian Police from Maroko Division.
“Although the body is still missing, effort is ongoing to recover the body by men of the Marine Police and the Lagos State Waterways Authority combing through the waters for over three hours on the possibilty to recover the body with no sign of the body in the water now,” he said.
Tiamiyu said it would be inappropriate to release the identity of the man but that his family had been contacted, while all items found on him had also been handed over to the Nigerian Police from Maroko Division for further investigation.
He however assured that LASEMA officials and other responders were on ground as to how the body would be recovered.
