Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Egbu, Rt.Rev. Geoffrey Okorafor has cautioned Christian youths to be weary of the University scholarship scheme being floated by Muslim groups in the Southern States of Nigeria.
In a release made available to Newsscreenng by the
Diocesan Communicator/Press Secretary, George Best Okoroh, Okorafor gave the advice during a Eucharistic service of confirmation, admission and induction at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Alulu, in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Imo State.
The cleric pointed out that the Muslim groups were luring Christian youths into their fold by offering them scholarships.
The cleric explained further that the intent of the scheme was to ensure that the beneficiaries were islamised in course of their studies. He observed that already the scheme has taken off in Ebonyi State with an initial intake of over 200 Christian youths, stressing that the ultimate idea is to take advantage of the quest for University education in the Southern States to fully islamise the people.
The Bishop also decried the apparent silence of the Federal government, under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari, over the mayhem being perpetuated across the land by Fulani herdsmen, citing the case in Agatu in Benue State where the herdsmen have murdered thousands of Agatu indigens.
He said it was more worrisome that the nation’s security agencies, the police, armed forces, including the DSS look the other way while the herdsmen cause havoc across the country with sophisticated weapons, only to intervene in protection of the herdsmen as was the case in Ugwuleshi community in Enugu State.
Bishop Okorafor averred that the continued atrocious activities of these herdsmen portends great danger to the corporate existence of the Nigerian nation and pleaded with the President to urgently stem this wanton killing, maiming and over running of communities in the country by this new terror group.
The President has the responsibility of ensuring the protection of lives and property of the citizenry.
In his homily earlier, the Bishop’s Chaplain, Rev Progress Okoroafor noted that the state of nation has subjected the citizens into great pains and grief. He further noted they are undergoing excruciating austere measures occasioned by paucity of money in circulation.
While acknowledging the hopelessness of the situation in the land, that Anglican Cleric said the time of their joy was in sight. He assured that as for them as Christians, their future was bright and better, stressing that their sadness would turn into gladness, the kind of gladness, he said no one can take away from them.
He urged them to remain steadfast and clinching tenacious to their faith in Jesus Christ pointing out that the path of the righteous was like sunrise, getting brighter and brighter by the day, whereas that of the wicked was as dark as the night and they stumble without knowing why their downfall.
