Senegal Beats Gambia, Wins African U20 Championship In Cairo

Senegal’s junior football team, the Young Teranga Lions of Senegal have won their maiden AFCON under 20 championship, after defeating neighbours Gambia 2-0 in the final.

The match was played on Saturday night at the Cairo International stadium in Egypt.

Senegal, who had not played in the final in 2015, 2017 and 2019, started the final brightly going ahead in the 6th minute via Souleymane Faye’s header connecting Pape Diallo’s cross and led through the 1st stanza of the match.

The young scorpions started 2nd half well with the intent of equalising and maybe force the game to extra time, but their efforts were thwarted when defensive error gave the best player of the tournament Mamadou Camara, a chance to double Senegal’s lead.

The win saw Senegal stamping authority as Affican football giants having won Senior AFCON, CHAN, beach soccer as well as AFCON under 23.
