A journalist and former Media Adviser to Senator Theodore Orji, Don Norman Obinna, has alleged that the former Abia State Governor who is now representing the Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly is after his life.
Obinna, a former Associate Editor of New Telegraph Newspaper, alleged in a statement on Friday that his former boss’ son, Chinedum, is also part of the plot to kill him using men in fake police uniform.
The former aide said the development follows a running battle he has been having with the Senator over the lawmaker’s refusal to pay him his “outstanding balance.”
According to the statement, gunmen dressed in Mobile Police uniform on Wednesday stormed Obinna’s children’s school around the Lekki-Ajah area of Lagos in a bid to abduct them.
The uniformed men requested to see the school’s proprietress to deliver a letter to her but, as the statement noted, “they instead apprehended and forcefully demanded from her to show and release my children to them.”
He said the confused proprietress, sensing danger, told them that the children were SSCE final year students sitting for their WAEC and were not in school that Wednesday.
“Unknown to them that they had been tricked they therefore struck a deal with the lady to keep their presence and discussion away from the children or me till the next day being Thursday 26th, April 2018,” said Obbina who added that the proprietress “quietly put a call across to me after they left and we both agreed to play along.”
Obinna said the development came a day after someone called and revealed to him that some men “disguised as police officers have been sent to Lagos to track” him down with a view to assassinate him.
He alleged that Chinedum, who is the Abia State House of Assembly Majority Leader, also about a month ago sent to his mobile phone several life threatening text messages.
The journalist added that his travails must have been occasioned by his latest published articles revealing the alleged misappropriation of funds and awards of “questionable contracts running to hundreds of billions of naira” by the Abia State government between 2007 through 2015 when Orji helmed the state.
