Scores of staffers of the Federal Medical Centre,FMC Yenagoa Thursday bagged different categories of awards as the Federal Government owned tertiary medical facility marked its 20th anniversary and annual end of year ceremonies.
The awardees, which include 13 staffs retiring this year also saw medical Doctors,Nurses and other professional staffs of the medical infrastructure receiving awards of meritorious services from management.
In his opening remarks,chairman management board of the hospital,Barrister Omale, Omale promised to partner the staffs and other relevant agencies in the health sector to make the hospital a centre for medical excellence, reiterating that the Government of president Muhammadu Buhari is willing to provide Nigerians with adequate and well equipped medical facilities.
“By God’s grace with Muhammadu Buhari as our president and with me as chairman of the board of management I will tell him whatever challenges facing the hospital within the ambits of my power as chairman of the board and together we will work to solve it.” He said.
Speaking, the chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr.Dennis Allagoa said the FMC as a health institution has come along way in providing medical care for Bayelsans and non-Bayelsans.
Allagoa noted that from the inception of the facility with a few medical and non-medical staff the hospital has made significant progress,stressing that the hospital now has medical professionals in virtually every medical specialty.
“There is virtually no specialisation of medicine that we do not have Doctors here, neurosurgery, Paediatrics, Urologist,Hematology,etc. With time we’ll be handling all those problems we refer patients to other hospitals here in Yenagoa.”He concluded.
The Federal Medical centre Yenagoa was established by the Government of the defunct Eastern Region and was accorded the status of a Federal hospital in 1999.
Activities commemorating the 20th anniversary of the FMC, Yenagoa began with a medical outreach at Yenaka community of Yenagoa Local Government Area,Tuesday and climaxed Thursday with awards and management stating their scorecard in the year 2019.
