A Non Governmental Organisation, the Bayelsa Partnership Initiative (BPI), has expressed its preparedness to collaborate with the federal, state governments and multinational companies operating in the state in ensuring that good governance is delivered to the people in the rural communities.
The group also noted that it has become imperative at this point the world is facing the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic for political stakeholders at all level to focus more on empowering the youths with skills and employment opportunities as an alternative in addressing post Covid-19 socio-economic challenges
This was disclosed in a statement signed and issued yesterday by the founder and National Coordinator, Chief GoodFriday Jonah in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
According to him, the purpose for the establishment of BPI in February, 2006 was to ensure all youths in Bayelsa State are gainfully employed while creating the needed platform in the various communities where residents will be trained in skills acquisition to become self employed.
Chief Jonah noted that BPI will also restore the dignity of the communities by providing them with the expertise and capacity to participate in managing development at the community level without interference from government officials.H
“BPI is designed to survive political changes by having a bill establishing it passed into law by the state House of Assembly as an independent body that will be funded directly from the state budget”, he said.
“It is designed to contribute to achieving good governance, civil order, accountability, productivity and fairness at all level of society in Bayelsa State.BPI will address youth restiveness and unemployment through massive skills acquisition programs, promote Bayelsa content in employment programs, negotiate for jobs in all institutions operating in the state and placing skilled youths into available spaces”, he added.
“It will also promote citizenship education, giving citizens the will to hold to account community leaders, the state, local and federal elected officials.BPI will develop and maintain a system of records and information on all factors affecting development at the community levels and make them available to development planners in the state”, he stated.
