…As Niger State Assembly Threatens To Shutdown Shiroro, Kanji, Jebba Hydro Power Dams

Apparently worried by the epileptic power supply in the state, the Niger State House of Assembly rose from its plenary on Wednesday, issuing a three weeks ultimatum to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to provide customers with prepaid meters and uninterrupted 24 hours power supply in the state.
It said failure to meet its demand, the House of Assembly stated it will have no choice than to mobilize the entire state to shutdown all the three Hydro Electricity Power dams in the state.
This ultimatum was coming on the heels of the state Assembly’s one day stakeholders meeting to deliberate on the poor electricity supply to the state despite the “criminal estimated bills” to consumers.
The House of assembly also asked the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company( AEDC) to provide consumers with pre paid meters before the expiration of the three weeks ultimatum.
The Chairman house committee on labour, Hon. Malik Madaki Bosso who made position of the house known after the stakeholders meeting described as unacceptable, the excuses by AEDC’s Management and Staff that consumers were not paying their electricity bills as responsible for the poor power supply.
The Lawmakers lamented that with all the three hydro power dams in the state, the state can not enjoy 24 hours power supply, stressing that “we will no longer take this from AEDC”.
