Politician’s Wife Cries To IGP Over Husband’s Disappearance

Mrs. Adenike  Elegushi Okokuku, wife of a Lagos politician, Mr. Adeshina Okokuku, has called on the Inspector General of Police(IGP), Ibrahim Idriss and Nigerians to come to her aid as her husband’s life is not only in danger but his whereabouts are unknown

The wife is also calling on the IGP to compel his officers and men to stop being an “instrument in the hands of politicians who are using them to harass their opponents.”

Okokuku, who spoke with journalists in Lagos over the weekend, said policemen stormed their house situated in the Ikorodu area of the state in a commando style without any search warrant and whisked her husband away to an unknown destination.

According to Adenike, her husband called her cell phone with an unknown number few days after he was taken away by the unknown policemen putting on Anti-robbery Police jackets on mufti.

The husband,she said, then told her from the location to run far away with the children because he had established that the person behind his unlawful arrest is a political big wig who has tried all means to win him over to his camp without success.

“My husband called me with an unknown number and said I should runaway with the children to where I can’t disclose. He said the policemen that came to arrest him on pretence of land dispute are actually working for an opposition party big wig who has ordered that he should be tortured to death if he refuses to join their party. 

“He said they took him to and unknown station and was not interrogated before they locked him up in the cell. He told me that the following day the Investigation officer brought up issue of politics that he was maligning the ruling party and are threatening to kill him, if he did not cooperate with them,” she lamented.

The distraught wife said she is now scared of security operatives, especially the police, because of their “flagrant abuse of law.”

She said two of her children died mysteriously  and would not want such a thing to happen to her and her husband over “political issues.”

Her words:”That was why I am calling on the IGP, Nigerians and the human rights community to come to our aid.

“Yesterday, an unknown number called me again and i quickly picked thinking it was my husband but the person on the line told me that my husband has escaped and that he said I should run away as he has ordered.

“I can’t get through to him on his phone since the day he was taken away and  the man that called claimed to be a policeman that helped him escape while on their way to the hospital. My life and that of my children is now also in danger and I don’t  want to die. I am not even sure that the people that came to our house are policemen.”
