Police Neutralises IPOB Terror Gang Member, Arrest Another In Sting Operation

The Imo State Police Command has successfully decapitated a notorious Indigenious People Of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) after the group had engaged the police in a fierce attack in an attempt arrest a member that has been terrorising and maiming members of the public and security personnels.

Working on a credible information that a member of IPOB/ ESN terror gang who has been in the Command’s wanted list but on the ran after participating in several killings of Police officers and burning of Police stations was seen at Umuchoke in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State, their response was swiftly resisted by the notorious gang member.

Disclosing this development, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Michael Abattam in a statement said the Command’s Tactical teams after diligent intelligence gathering, on the 6th of October, 2021 about 1630 hours, mobilised and stormed the shop of the hoodlum.

The suspect identified as Uchenna Chukwu, a 34 years old panel beater of Umunakanu in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State went gaga on sighting the police operatives.

In a desperate attempt, he raised alarm alerting other members of his gang. True to his insipid notoerity, he picked a cutlass and rushed at one of the police operatives and attempted to chop off his head but was overpowered, disarmed and the cutlass recovered from him.

CSP Abattam further explained that “While this was on, the already alerted members came in their numbers and engaged the police operatives in a gun duel but were overwhelmed by the superior firing power of the police.

“In the process, one of them was killed while others escaped with bullet wounds into hiding.

“Recovered from the deceased were one locally made double barrel pistol with two expended cartridges, two live cartridges and the charms he tied round his waist to fortify himself against police bullet.

However, while laying an ambush, ostensibly unaware that the police personnel were laying in wait, one of the suspects surfaced and was immediately apprehended.

The suspect, according to the Spokesperson is presently “undergoing interrogation and has made useful statement to the investigating team revealing their hideout and the abode of other members of his gang who are on the run.

Meanwhile, investigation is in progress and the police operatives are working in synergy with other security agencies to arrest the other members of the terror group especially, those that escaped with bullets injuries.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Rabiu Hussaini, while commending the officers and men for their gallantry and proactiveness, expressed his appreciation to the good people of Imo State for their consistent support.

He, therefore, advised them to continue to assist the police with credible information and report to the nearest police station any person seen with bullet wounds.
