Police In Lagos Destroy N50m Worth Hard Drugs

The Police in Lagos yesterday destroyed heaps of hard drugs recovered in the Lagos metropolis.

Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Mr. Imohimi Oluwole Edgal, answering questions from journalist following exhibits recovered from suspect arrested at Mushin in Lagos yesterday warned Nigerians to desist from the bad habit of drug addiction.

Also at the site was Chairman Lagos State Task Force, Mr. Yinka Egbeyemi and other top police operatives in Lagos State.

The Police Commissioner however poured petrol on the Indian hemp, Cocaine, Heroine Codeine, recovered from the suspects arrested in Mushin area of Lagos at the Olusosun dump side site in Ojota, Lagos.

The Police in Lagos over the years have sustained the war against hard drugs being peddled and abused on a daily basis by hoodlums in parts of the state.

Addressing journalists during the operation, the Commissioner of Police said, “Over 56 suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizure and have since been charged to court.”

He added that, “Some of them were arrested at Akala, in Mushin area of Lagos. It was as a result of the court order that the drug be burnt openly that we are here. We will not allow drugs to be sold on the streets of Lagos.”

Stating further, he reminded the public of his promise to rid the state of drug peddlers fueling crimes in the metropolis. “You will recall during the town hall meetings I held recently that I promised to rid Lagos State of drug peddlers. This exercise is to clamp down on drug peddlers and also to assure members of the public that our youths will no longer have access to hard drug.”

“Drug fuels crime and deviant behaviours, which is why the police have decided to rid every nooks and crannies of the state of hard drugs.

“Amongst the hard drugs to be destroyed is Codeine, which is supposed to be a cough syrup. Codeine can be gotten easily at any pharmacy shop, which makes it worrisome. We hereby urge all pharmacists to sell the cough syrups only to those with doctor’s prescription.” he said.
